What did happen to us? Men use to be a fearing force in groups, we could take down large predators, achieve greatness and still be home for supper. We could get few hours of sleep break our backs working for our family come home to our family, spend time with them. Now we work, some don’t even work nowadays and we come home “tired” all we wanna do is sit on our phones, watch tv or maybe even playing a gaming console because we had a “exhausting” day. Now I’m not speaking for men as a whole, I’m talking to men who do this or maybe you know a man like this. Some days I did have a rough day at work, I’d come home, shower and kick back on the recliner but somehow I always had enough energy to play on my phone, scroll mindlessly on social media or watch tonight’s game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sports, I’m a sports fanatic but it becomes a issue when you pick it over family. “Go in there, dad is trying to watch the game” “Sorry kiddo dad is to tired to play right now, I had a long day”. Ok so you’re tired but can still hold your eyes open to play on your device? Come on man! Our kids are counting on us! You may have a very physical job it may be back breaking but if you can hold your damn eyes open to be on your phone or watch tv, you still have enough energy to play with your kids, teach them something. If it’s really a game you’re interested in why not have them join you? Let them sit with you, teach them about the game as it goes on, who you think will win, point and show them players and what they’ve accomplished. We as humans have a dying force to be something, to create something, to do something. Kids hearing the accomplishments of others lights a fire under there ass to be great to do something, doing just that, will not only create a bond or a memory for your kids but it will help you also!
So that’s where I’m starting on this journey, put my phone down and start being a dad and partner. They count on me everyday and I let them down every time I pick a electronic over them. When I’m home they will be my focus not the tv or my phone, I can make time for them and will make time for them!
